Rana Naidu Season 2 Web Series Review
The second season of Rana Naidu opens with Naga, once volatile and belligerent, seemingly turning over a new leaf in Goa’s Siolem, starting his days with Anulom Vilom breathing exercises, suggesting he’s embracing his age. This irony sets the stage for the season, as Naga soon reverts to form, hyping up a brutal wrestling match in an akhara, goading bloodthirsty fighters and spectators to bet big. Enter his estranged son, Rana, forced by circumstances to face off against the formidable Dynamite D’Souza in the ring.
What unfolds is a gritty brawl where Rana, despite promising Naga he’ll throw the fight, lets his ego take over and pummels D’Souza. While the opening sets a strong tone, the season ultimately fizzles out like a damp firecracker. Likely in response to 2023’s backlash, the makers toned down the violence, sex, and profanity, stripping the series of its distinctive edge. This shift turns Rana Naidu into a generic action thriller, where men court trouble and fight to protect their families, diluting the chaotic, vibrant world the show once inhabited. The mayhem and cacophony persist, but they lack impact. Naga’s sharp, quirky one-liners are curtailed, and the show’s signature panache is replaced by a safer, sanitized version, which becomes its biggest weakness.
Picking up from 2023’s cliffhanger, season two follows Rana and Naina seeking a break from the chaos. Returning to Mumbai from Paris, they’re thrust back into turmoil when their son Ani is kidnapped. Rana secures a private jet from film producer Oberoi and heads to Goa to rescue Ani. There, he reunites with Naga, who helps locate his son. In a tense nightclub confrontation, Rana eliminates the kidnappers, kills their leader Saif by throwing him into a fire, and safely brings Ani home.
