Heads Of State 2025 Movie Review
In Heads of State, John Cena plays Will Derringer, a former action star turned U.S. President, who must team up with Idris Elba’s Sam Clarke, a former commando now UK Prime Minister, despite their rivalry, as they dodge assassins. Priyanka Chopra shines as Noel Bisset, a skilled MI6 agent aiding them. Though packed with a talented cast and decent action, the film struggles to fully commit to its wild premise, limiting its impact.
Directed by Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry, Nobody), the movie falls short of its potential, landing as a passable one-time watch. It awkwardly balances campy action and serious drama, which disrupts the early flow. Cena and Elba’s chemistry starts uneven—Cena embraces action-movie quips, while Elba plays it straight—but their natural charm eventually smooths things out.
The screenplay, penned by Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, and Harrison Query, follows predictable beats but is lifted by the leads. Cena nails the lighthearted vibe from the get-go, Elba warms up to it, and Chopra stands out, particularly in the gripping climax, holding her own with her co-stars.
